This series of coins is the product of a joint effort by Spain, Portugal and several Ibero-American countries to create a permanent linkage of union and contact that enables the mutual acknowledgment of cultures, customs and specific national traits as reflected in the design of the coins.

Each country has issued its own coin; furthermore, there are full collections for each series, including the coins of all participating countries and, for some series, a commemorative medal.

The Argentine coins were designed by the BCRA's plastic artist, Carlos P. Rodríguez Dufour.
