Ibero-American Series

This series of coins is the product of a joint effort by Spain, Portugal and several Ibero-American countries to create a permanent linkage of union and contact that enables the mutual acknowledgment of cultures, customs and specific national traits as reflected in the design of the coins.

Each country has issued its own coin; furthermore, there are full collections for each series, including the coins of all participating countries and, for some series, a commemorative medal.




1991 - I Series: Quincentennial of the discovery of the Americas

Ibero-American Series

Coin issued to commemorate the quincentennial of the discovery of the Americas as part of a joint effort by Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, Portugal, Spain, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

2010 - VIII Series: Historical Ibero-American Coins

Ibero-American Series

This is the 8th series of the commemorative coins called the "Historical Ibero-American Coins", the first series having being issued in 1991. The following countries have also taken part in this issue: Cuba, Spain, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Para-guay, Peru and Portugal.

The Central Bank of the Argentine Republic reproduced the motif of the obverse of the first national coin of $1 minted in 1881 (under Act 1,130 for the unification of the monetary system of Argentina) on this new series. The original coin was popularly known as "patacón", a colloquial word used for similar colonial Spanish American coins.

2015 - X Series: Cultural Roots

The X Iberoamerican Series of Commemorative Coins, whose motto is "Cultural Roots", is the result of a collective project that began in 1992 and of which our country has always participated. On this occasion they also intervene: Cuba, Ecuador, Spain, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru and Portugal.

The design of this piece refers to the emblem of the original peoples and an icon of ethnic and cultural diversity, the Wiphala. Its square structure, unlike Western flags that are rectangular, evokes: organization, harmony, solidarity, unity, equality, justice, integration, inclusion.

2017 - IXI Series: Natural Wonders

The XI Iberoamerican Series of Commemorative Coins, whose motto is "Natural Wonders", is the result of a collective project that began in 1992 and of which our country has always participated. In this opportunity, the issue will only be for the international market and the countries that intervene are: Argentina, Cuba, Ecuador, Spain, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru and Portugal.

The design of this piece refers to the calcareous formation Serranías del Hornocal, located in the Quebrada de Humahuaca in the province of Jujuy, constituted by different types of minerals that, when eroded, created a symphony of shades on the mountain slopes. From the Hornocal Viewpoint, at 4300 meters above sea level, you can see its triangular veins and its polychrome palette that some say can reach thirty-three shades, making it one of the most dazzling landscapes of the Argentine territory.
